The Chrysler Pacifica: A Time Tested Family Vehicle

Chrysler is a time-tested automobile brand that we place our trust in over and over again. You might think we’re just saying that as a Chrysler dealer, but we’ve seen too many Chryslers to count come and go through our dealership, and the reviews are always positive.
The Chrysler brand is iconic to the American people. It was founded in 1925 by Walter Chrysler, and we’re used to seeing it in neighborhoods everywhere. It has a reputation for luxury and innovation, so it’s not surprising that, over the years, Chrysler has shaken up the car world with one industry first after another. Possibly most noteworthy is their creation of the industry’s first luxury ‘minivan,’ now a family staple for generations that has revolutionized how people transport their families.
When you think of the iconic minivan, you might picture the Chrysler Pacifica, and you’re not alone. Over 100,000 Chrysler Pacificas sold in the first nine months of 2023, and the trend shows no signs of slowing despite more than 20 years of history. Although sometimes being the butt of jokes on the internet about trading in your sports vehicle for a minivan when you start a family, Chrysler lovers know that a good minivan like the Pacifica blends exceptional comfort, practicality, and safety. This makes it an outstanding family vehicle. Don’t let internet haters change your mind!
The Chrysler Pacifica Through the Years
1999 Chrysler Pacifica
The 1999 Chrysler Pacifica’s introduction to the market was a highly significant moment in automotive history. It hit the market as a luxury minivan, a new concept, and showcased Chrysler’s innovative spirit and forward-thinking approach to vehicle design. The concept vehicle was unveiled by Chrysler at a time when the minivan market was flourishing. It featured a sleek, aerodynamic design that set it apart from the traditional box-shaped minivan that many car buyers had grown tired of. Chrysler wanted to provide the market with something more stylish and eye-catching while still being a practical vehicle for family transportation. Inside the concept vehicle was a luxurious and comfortable cabin that showed off advanced technology features and high-quality materials. Chrysler learned from the success of its new luxury minivan and adapted these learnings to other models in their lineup, expanding even past mini-vans to crossover SUVs as well.
2002-2008 Chrysler Pacifica—Crossover Concept
By 2002, Chrysler decided to port the Pacifica over to a crossover model. Crossovers and minivans cater to different automotive needs. Crossovers are constructed on a car platform and offer a car-like driving experience with higher ground clearance. They strike a balance between comfort and style but with slightly less space than minivans offer. On the other hand, minivans, like the previous iteration of the Pacifica, are designed with the maximum number of passengers in mind. They also emphasize cargo space and generally have sliding doors for easy access to kids in car seats.
Transition back to a Minivan (2017-Present) Chrysler Pacifica
Chrysler decided to move the Pacifica model back to a minivan in 2017 and hasn’t looked back. This new vehicle is technically unrelated to the crossover and concept iterations of the Pacifica, despite bearing its same name, and is its own incarnation. According to the director of Chrysler brand product marketing, Bruce Velisek, this Pacifica is meant to “change the entire paradigm of what people know about minivans in the segment.” This model is the one you’ll commonly see at Chrysler dealerships like ours, with thousands being driven across the country every day.
The 2024 Chrysler Pacifica
Pacific enthusiasts have been waiting for the 2024 generation with a lot of anticipation. Despite being a luxury minivan, the base MSRP for this vehicle clocks in shy of $40k, at only $38,425.[a] This makes it an affordable family vehicle for families who are cost-conscious and are still looking to get the best in safety and practicality.

Powertrain
This newest Pacifica isn’t going to give you any trouble getting up to speed on the highway. Despite what many people think about minivans, you’ll be able to reach 60 mph in 7.3 seconds. You’ll feel peppy and agile while driving around town, too. Under the hood of the 2024 Chrysler Pacifica, you’ll find a 287 hp 3.6-liter V6 and a nine-speed automatic transmission. This is the standard, gas-only version of the Pacifica. If you choose the eco-friendly route, you can choose the hybrid version of the 2024 Chrysler Pacifica. If you do, the engine makes 287 hp from its 3.6-liter V6 and two electric motors. These electric motors are backed by a 16.0-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, so you can get where you’re going in green style.
Comfort and Style
Your passengers will have plenty of room and space to breathe inside the new Chrysler Pacifica. And not only is there space, it’s furnished with loads of features to make long road trips and rides to and from sports practice convenient and comfortable. Inside, you’ll find features such as cubby spaces, cupholders, and connectivity options for the tech-minded family. If you opt for the elevated Limited trim on this minivan, you’ll even get a taller and more integrated center console. To get premium leather seats, lumbar support, and extra luxury that will have you feeling like you’re at a five-star hotel, choose the Pinnacle trim.
One of the features that have Pacifica drivers coming back year after year is Chrysler’s patented Stow ‘n Go seating. This feature lets drivers and their passengers fold the back seats down into the floor so that large, bulky items can be stowed in the back. The hybrid version of the 2024 Pacifica is the only model that doesn’t feature this capability. This is because of the hybrid’s underfloor battery placement. Instead of Stow ‘n Go storage, extra padding has been added to the standard seats for an even more comfortable ride.
Cargo capacity is a class that the Pacific gets all As in. With the seats folded down using the Stow ‘n Go functionality, you could stash 53 carry-on suitcases in the back! That’s way more than we think you’ll need! And if you want to keep your minivan clean even while on the go, you can swap out the mini-spare tire for an available built-in vacuum cleaner. After all, kids get messy. No cereal will get ground into your flooring with this feature!
Technology
Just because the Pacifica is a practical vehicle doesn’t mean Chrysler skimped on tech. There are loads of features to keep you and your family entertained. Chrysler’s latest Uconnect 5 infotainment system is showcased on a 10.1-inch touchscreen in the center dash between the climate control vents. You can choose to customize the home screen to suit your needs, and comes with the ability to add Amazon Alexa. This will come in handy when you’re focusing on driving and keeping an eye on the kids, but need to operate the dash at the same time. The infotainment system also supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, with convenient wireless connectivity to your phone. And because there’s a wifi hotspot, you’ll never feel disconnected no matter where the road takes you.
Chrysler didn’t forget about keeping the kids entertained! You can opt for available rear-seat dual touchscreens. This system can include Amazon Fire TV so your kids can access a vast catalog of movies and TV while you’re driving. If they want to plug in their own devices, the 2024 Chrysler Pacifica comes equipped with up to 12 USB ports dispersed conveniently throughout the cabin. The kids can keep all their devices charged so they will ignore each other, and you can get back to driving.
