The Dodge Challenger: we can’t talk about it without getting a little nostalgic. Any gathering or event focused on iconic vehicles will always feature at least a handful of these classic muscle cars. Dodge first released the Challenger in 1969 for the 1970 Model year. It was a time of transition in the United States and the Dodge Challenger is forever intertwined with this unique, exciting era. With its bold, muscular profile, powerful engine with a roar that would make the hairs rise on the back of your neck, and imposing long facia, the Challenger was unmistakable for any other vehicle.

While drivers focus more on fuel efficiency and safety, it is more difficult to find a place in the car world for beefy, gas-guzzling muscle cars like the Challenger. But that does not mean this classic performance car won’t always have a place in our hearts. It is clear that Dodge is sad to see it take a hiatus in 2024, as it moves onto the next step in its evolution, with Dodge Challenger sales continuing in the 2025 model year. As a last hurrah and a celebration of a legacy of excellence, Dodge created five special editions of the Challenger in a series called The Last Call. If you want to purchase a piece of history before it slips away from your grasp, consider leaning in all the way and checking out one of the five special editions available for the 2023 Challenger.

The Demon 170

Looking to misbehave a little? The Demon 170 embodies the true rebel nature of the Challenger. It is certainly not safe for the streets if you plan on taking full advantage of this model’s capabilities. However, if you are looking for a serious rush, then you have to check out this incredible performance edition.

The Demon 170 produces 1,025 hp out of its HEMI engine. You did read that correctly: a 1,025 hp. That makes this the fastest vehicle in Dodge’s 100-year history. Did we mention that it can reach up to 151.17 mph in just over eight seconds? If you are looking to re-create your own Fast and Furious moments on the track, the Demon 170 will fulfill your wildest dreams. Make sure to buckle up tight and perhaps even have a light lunch. The Demon 170 will feel as though it defies the laws of physics as it reaches what almost seems like light speed.

The model’s drag mode suspension boasts uniquely tuned valves in adaptive damping shocks that reduce opposing forces on the vehicle for phenomenal forward momentum. Feel like you are cutting through the air like butter in this speed demon. The tires are beautiful, massive drag radials that also enhance the vehicle’s incredible acceleration capabilities. Plus, Dodge has staggered the radial tires for a wide stance that can improve handling and traction.

The Black Ghost

The Black Ghost is a striking all-black model that will bring out the vigilante in you. The outside features pitch-black paint and a black gator skin vinyl roof that is equal parts retro and futuristic while undeniably edgy. A bright Dodge hood badge shows your love for your car, while a Challenger script grille, along with Challenger badges on the fender and spoiler, further show your loyalty to your performance vehicle. A deck lid stripe creates visually intriguing contrast, while a bright fuel fill door has unmistakably race track-inspired styling.

On the inside, you will find leather-trimmed seats as well as a steering wheel with a red LED SRT logo. A suede headliner adds sophistication while real carbon fiber bezels encircling display screens create an elevated and futuristic appearance.

The Shakedown

The Shakedown combines black elements with bright red accents for a beautifully menacing aesthetic. You’ll find red Shakedown spoiler graphics, as well as a Shakedown stripe with a red accent on the outside. Paired with a black Challenger grille badge and a Mopar black hood pin kit, this model looks ready to terrorize the streets. The unparalleled six-piston Brembo brake system features red brake calipers that always succeed at turning heads as they spin by. Carbon black wrapped speed wheels add to the mystique and rebel nature of this limited edition vehicle.

Move inside, and you will find a Shakedown badge across the instrument panel. The seats feature a black Napa leather trim with vibrant red stitching. You will find this red stitching continues across the console, steering wheel, and instrument panel. Demonic red seat belts beckon you in for the ride of a lifetime.

The Swinger

If you are after the iconic 1970s, laid-back and groovy style, check out the Swinger. Its super cool styling makes it just as right for cruising on a Sunday as it is for speeding along a track. It has a unique painted Swinger hood scoop and the iconic and retro Scat Pack/Bee rear spoiler badge, a nod to the Super Bee Dodge Chargers of the 1970s. In fact, the Scat Pack was part of a 1968 marketing campaign for all Dodge performance vehicles in 1968. Swinger exterior vinyl graphics will forever differentiate this model from the standard Challengers. Classic Gold School wheels add that sort of kitsch retro vibe that’s hard not to love. The angry bee motif continues with a monochrome bee fender badge, and a Gold School grille badge completes the look.

The inside is everything you would want to evoke luxury, a la the 1970s. We’re talking wood grain textured aluminum bezels, just like the one you saw in Dad’s prized luxury vehicle growing up. You’ll find a Swinger instrument panel badge, as well as basil green accents throughout, including the door stitching and on the console. White face gauges evoke the nostalgic vibe of this vehicle, meant to take you back to a time when men sported white polyester suits to the club.

The Blacktop

We round out our list of Last Call Challenger special editions with the Blacktop. It is available in the SXT trim and the GT trim. Both can be ordered with either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The Blacktop is characterized by its blacked-out exterior badges and interior accents as well as top-of-the-line performance treats. The SXT rear-wheel drive, for example, boasts granite crystal wheels, black exhaust tips, a black grill with a bezel, and all-season performance tires. Move up to the SXT all-wheel drive, and you get many of the same style accents of the rear-wheel drive model, plus a leather-wrapped performance steering wheel and a black all-wheel drive Rhombi badge.

The grand touring, a.k.a. The GT model, enjoys its own unique GT style details, which can be found on the fuel filler door and taillamp. The inside has stunning gloss black instrument cluster trim rings and performance seats that welcome you in for a ride of your lifetime.

The End of an Era, and the Beginning of a New One

If you’ve ever considered getting behind the wheel of this muscle car, now is the time, and our dedicated team here at Lake Norman Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram is here to help you pick out the perfect edition that reflects your unique style and needs.
